A context brief that survives a handoff

By Sumus AI

A good context brief keeps a project moving when another teammate joins. It should explain the current work without becoming a copy of the entire conversation.

Preserve the useful state

Start with the desired outcome and the constraints that still apply. Link to the latest draft or result. Explain which checks have been completed and which ones remain open.

Keep decisions separate from suggestions

A suggestion is not an accepted decision. Label proposals, assumptions and confirmed choices so the next person does not accidentally treat an idea as an instruction.

Leave a clear continuation

Name the next action and the evidence that would show it worked. If an external response is pending, say what was submitted and where its status can be checked. Avoid repeating a submission simply because a previous session ended.

A short template

  • Goal and current constraints
  • Latest output and supporting evidence
  • Decisions already made
  • Unresolved questions
  • Next action and completion check

This is useful for both people and AI teammates. Sumus AI for research and planning brings those activities into a shared workspace; a concise context brief makes the work easier to pick up again.
